The Council of Ahl al-Quran is pleased to officially announce the organization of the first International Quran Competition to be held in Nigeria in the year 1447 AH. The competition will conclude with an official ceremony in the capital city, Abuja, God willing.

Competition Start Date:

Saturday, 29th Safar 1447 AH (Corresponding to August 29, 2025)

Closing Ceremony:

Saturday, 6th Rabi' al-Awwal 1447 AH (Corresponding to August 22, 2025) in Abuja, Nigeria

International Qur'anic Competition

A Global Celebration of Qur'anic Excellence

Nigeria hosts its first-ever International Qur'anic Recitation Competition.

Spearheaded by Hon. Muhammad Adam Alkali and supported by the Centre for Islamic Studies at Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, this landmark event will feature 44 male and female participants from 20 countries, including Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Senegal, and Saudi Arabia. The competition aims to promote Islamic values, foster unity, and showcase excellence in Qur'anic recitation, memorization, and understanding.

Starting in Jos, Plateau State, for initial phases and concluding in Abuja, the event will bring together global Islamic communities under the guidance of esteemed judges, celebrating the Holy Qur'an as the ultimate guide for a meaningful life.

Screening Process for Participants

Screening for Nigerian Participants

Nigerian applicants will undergo an initial screening live and in person, followed by a second screening round in Jos, Plateau State, for those who qualify.

Screening for Non-Nigerian Participants

Those representing other countries will be screened by their nominating entity, in coordination with the Council of Ahl al-Quran in Nigeria.

Competition Categories & Requirements

1. Male Category (Branch One)

Requirements:

  • Full memorization of the Holy Quran
  • Understanding the meanings
  • Memorization and explanation of Ash-Shatibiyyah (on the seven Qira’at)
  • Knowledge of Al-Fara’id al-Hisan in Quranic verse enumeration

Age Requirement: Minimum: 17 years, Maximum: 22 years


2. Female Category (Branch Two)

Requirements:

  • Full memorization of the Holy Quran
  • Memorization of Al-Jazariyyah text

Age Requirement: Minimum: 17 years, Maximum: 29 years

All travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the organizing committee.

This competition is a unique scholarly and spiritual opportunity for Ahl al-Quran in Nigeria and beyond.

Preliminary Event Schedule

  • Arrival in Abuja.

    International participants and officials arrive in Abuja on August 20th and 21st, 2025.

  • Abuja Committee Setup.

    Reception arrangements begin with the arrival of the Abuja Committee on August 20th, 2025.

  • Travel to Jos.

    Participants depart from Abuja to Jos on August 22nd, 2025.

  • Opening of Musabaqa.

    The competition runs from August 23rd to 26th, 2025 (29th Safar, 1446), in Jos, featuring recitations and evaluations by six judges.

  • Return to Abuja.

    Participants travel back to Abuja on August 27th, 2025.

  • Closing Ceremony (Preliminary Date).

    The grand finale and prize distribution take place in Abuja on August 30th, 2025.

  • Departure.

    International participants depart on August 31st and September 1st, 2025.

A diverse gathering of 44 reciters from 20 nations.

The competition will feature 44 male and female participants from countries including Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Niger, Egypt, Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, England, the UAE, and the USA. Each country will send talented reciters and officials, showcasing the global richness of Qur'anic scholarship.
